Sybilla looked into her mirror
Priscilla looked into the washing machine
And the drudgery of being wed
She was so jealous of her sister
And her liberty, and her smart young friends
She was so jealous of her sister

Sybilla looked into the wardrobe
Priscilla looked into the frying pan
And the bacon and eggs
And the breakfast is served
She was so jealous of her sister
And her way of life, and her luxury flat
She was so jealous of her sister

She'd throw away her dirty dishes just to be free again
Her women's weekly magazines just to be free again
And put the children in the nursery just to be free again
Priscilla saw her little children
And then decided she was better off
Than the wayward lass that her sister had been
No longer jealous of her sister
So she ran 'round the house with her curlers on
No longer jealous of her sister

There's nothing wrong with comparing The Kinks to other bands, especially other bands of the same period. The Kinks had a soft, dreamy sound with a bit of angst hidden inside. The Stones were more rock. The Beatles, fortunately, were leaving behind their British pop sound. They are all great. If you disagree, that's fine; it's an open forum. Remember Socrates? Even in death he encouraged dialectics.

However, posting a crude and whiny post won't convince anyone who has a taste in music.

The Kinks were definitely known to be an influence on the Beatles in several ways! For one thing, "See My Friends" with its Indian sound predates the 1st Indian inspired Beatles song, "Norwegian Wood" by 6 months and is said to have helped inspire it. :)

No matter what's said -- The Kinks (Ray Davies) wrote 3 of the most fantastic rock songs in R&R history. "All Day & All Night," "Tired of Waiting For You," & "You Really Got Me." Once established their quality was virtually untouchable by any other Britsh band including The Beatles. "Waterloo Sunset," "Days" "Autumn Almanac," "Polly" "Deadend Street" -- written years before "Let It Be." "Shangri La," is equal to anything on Sgt Pepper. Ray Davies IS Lennon-McCartney rolled into one composer.

I don't know about Beatles being more rock. The Kinks did their fair share of "rocking" out too as much as the quaint dreamy stuff. I don't find the Kinks being all that dreamy though. Davies writes/wrote a lot of witty commentary lyrics about relationships and society, basic life.Really more targeting the UK, a lot of it goes over the heads of American listeners like myself. I only know or understand so much about UK life, but, I think I can understand Davies' stuff.

Probably my favorite moment on this LP. Love that harpsichord, how the song kicks off in the middle, those wonderful witty lyrics. Awesome stuff. Great great LP.
