Fishing for yelloweye rockfish, black rockfish, and lingcod in Sitka, Alaska. From a Forest Service cabin in Sevenfathom Bay, we sought out several saltwater species in Sitka Sound from Bjorka Island to Peisar Island. Lots of fun and at least one day of beautiful weather and light seas. Apologies in advance for the excessive wind noise!

  • The yelloweye rockfish (red snapper) come up from about 100 ft, and will not survive if released. The black rockfish we were catching were only in about 20ft max of water, making catch and release possible. The lingcod (ling) have a physostomous (connected) air bladder and don't experience the same pressure effects as rockfish, which have a physoclistous (unconnected) air bladder, allowing us to release them relatively unharmed as well. We kept our limits on all species, returning w/ >200#.

  • it looks like you kept the red snapper and released the black cod?
