My name is Matt McLaren.

This is a video of me at the 2006-2007 North West Regional Drill and Rifle Championship Competition representing Woodrow Wilson High School in Tacoma, WA. It was my first time there and I ended up taking a first place. Let me know what you think. And for the record the rifle is real. 10.32 pounds of M-14. Thanks to those of you who link my video to your web page, but remember to give credit where it's due. ;)

:Uptdate: I have long since graduated from high school and no longer compete in Armed Drill. I did not join the Marine Corps. I'm a college student now. I coached my high school Armed Drill Team after graduation and led them to a Division Title and 3rd Place at the Regional Competition. The Duals and Singelists I coached took 1st in Division and at Regionals.

These are the dualists and the singlist I trained.

PM me if you have any questions. I get a lot so I'll get to yours as soon as I can.

  • Looks cool, but I cant really see the practical use of this drill. When would you have to spin your rifle in combat?

  • @DaXia333 who said it was meant for combat?

  • @SonofGenkai18

I just assumed that all training a marine did had some kind of purpose besides from looking cool. No offense, this stuff looks awesome, but I still don't understand the use of this kind of training. Spinning a rifle, especially if your locked and loaded, is never a good idea. I did my military service in Sweden, and there is no end to the hell our equivalent to a "drill sergeant" would put us through if he'd catch us doing something like this.

  • @DaXia333 I doubt everything single thing you did in the military was meant to be used in combat. Armed Drill is meant to be a ceremonial display of discipline. It is used by all branches of the military for that reason. Furthermore, thousands of colleges and high schools compete every year in Armed Drill competitions which is what I'm doing here.

  • do you think i could be able to do that with my background in Color Guard??

  • @Vampfan111 absolutely. It just takes practice. :)

  • Im a c/gunny and ive been in mcjrotc for 2 years. And i cant spin our drill rifles like this. Your an inspiration

  • made SDP look bad

  • @DaXia333 hand eye cordnation :)

  • @DaXia333 That and the fact that he was in highschool when this was filmed. whether he joined the marine corps or not, idk

  • @Jocol85 wow. that was my idiot brother with that stupid question.

  • @DaXia333 It's a form of hand-eye coordination practice, and as it is a part of drill, it promotes discipline. It helps develop dexterity and arm strength, even balance, and it's a fun thing to do, along with the its use as a ceremonial display.

  • You spin that rifle like it's your bitch.

  • whoa this is awesome I joined JROTC monday of this week and the only things i can do with the rifle is a tap twirl and some kind of marching manual
