In this video I compare the similarities and differences between 2 high end impact wrenches. Campbell Hausfield is a "lesser" brand name than Ingersoll Rand but as you will see it still does quite well. Overall, both devices performed well but the IR gun worked better in reverse which tips the scales to make it the winner in my opinion.

  • Nice demo. I compared my impact at different pressures and also I swapped my 3/8" tubing for 1/2" to see if that would help. It turns out, differences in the above factors are major players as far as reverse torque goes. That said, I'm still looking for a higher torque impact, for those occasional difficult situations where a cheater bar isn't practical. So far, a cheater bar offers much more torque than air tools in my hands.

  • @spelunkerd all my piping is about 75' of 3/8" rubber hose. do you think cranking the pressure up a bit to ~130 with 3/8" line is as good as going to 1/2" hosing but leaving the pressure at 90? In other words, can I postpone upgrading hoses if I simply crank up the pressure?

  • @mrsillyman Impact guns take a fair amount of air volume, and so I'll guess that volume is probably more important than absolute pressure. If I recall, the resistance of a cylinder goes up by the 4th power of radius, so tubing diameter should make a huge difference. When I got a shorter 1/2", my crappy impact worked lots better. This was despite the fact that there is a 3/8" short bottleneck coming out of the tank. Unfortunately I wasn't able to measure my observations objectively.

  • All these home impacts just seem tiny to me
