One of Rome's biggest tourist attractions, the Spanish steps was filled with roughly 500,000 colored balls on Wednesday. The organizer of the stunt said was a protest against Italy's problems, especially a garbage crisis in Naples. (Jan. 17)

they were named thusly because of the old spanish embassy that was very close to the stairs

hes protesting the governments decision to stpo collecting garbage because the landfills are allagedly full
