  • How can the doctor be sure he is entering only the plugged meibomian glands? How does he know if it is the correct angle or depth? I think that it would be too easy to puncture the wrong place or puncture the gland sideways or too deeply, causing infection and further inflammation. The bleeding in this video indicates some misses!

    Is the patient given antibiotic drops following this procedure? Have any large studies been done showing the efficacy of this procedure and side effects?

  • This is meibomian gland probing. You can look for more videos and info on this topic. As I understand, it is done to allow more of the secretions from the meibomian glands to flow into the eye.
