Wedge Modification of Yamaha Al Kay Trombone Mouthpiece

This video shows the Wedge modification of a Yamaha Al Kay trombone mouthpiece. The Wedge modification retains the feel of the original mouthpiece but provides the advantages of the Wedge rim. Most players will experience more core in the sound, a fatter lower register, improved flexibility, and greater endurance, comfort, and range with the Wedge. In addition to this type of modification it is possible to scan the mouthpiece and cut a new one from a custom Wedge blank. Stock Wedge trombone mouthpieces come in equivalent Bach sizes.

Wedge mouthpieces are also available for trumpet, cornet, flugel, French horn, and tuba.

A modification is actually $175, which includes scanning your mouthpiece, programming and machining the rim, polishing, and silver plating.

Stock models made from a Wedge blank are $195. The sizes currently available are 4.5G, 5G, and 7C. We will soon have a 6-1/2AL and other sizes. It is possible to make your own. You just need to know what you are doing or it is very easy to ruin your mouthpiece. A few thousands of an inch in contour can make a big difference, so please be careful.
