2 high speed,

Do me and anyone else standing behind the lathe a favor.
Put the chuck key somewhere else. It doesn't belong on the top of the machine where it can fall into the rotating chuck.
The lathe is fine. I was just working on it last night mxking a part for my Dillon press.

Looked like he turned the spindle speed down while in the cut with his left hand. Thats why the machine seemed to slow down so much. The spindle speed did not rise when the cut was complete. The material broke a chip like 12L14 steel (free machining). 1018 cold finish would not ack like that. I don't see any harm taking a cut like that with the material hes useing.

All, I did this only because some think it can't be done. There was a discussion going on at the time on a BB where some were saying you could not take more than .010" cuts with these lathes. I do not take cuts like that when making actual work. This was just a demonstration of what a small power lathe can do when the setup is rigid, the tool geometry is right and the speeds and feeds are set properly.
I was turning down the speed as the cut went full depth to reduce chatter.

Taking the Sieg 7x12 to the max. I'm taking 1/4 depth of cut off a 5/8 1018 cr rod at the end of the cut.
Homemade QCTP, 5/16 HSS bit. The lathe is a stock Cummins 7x12.
Note: This is a stunt. I wouldn't expect the power electronics to tolerate this for very long!
