Born October 6, 1948 in Santiago, Chile, Pinera was the architect of the first private pension system based on personal retirement accounts.
As Minister of Labour and Social Security of Chile from 1978 to 1980 and of mining in 1981 he was responsible for three key structural reforms: privatization of the pension system, labor law and the restoration of private property rights in mining.

Jose Pinera graduated in economics in 1970 at the Catholic University of Chile, which at that time was closely associated with the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. In 1974 he received a doctorate in economics from Harvard University.
In 1975, Jose Pinera returned to Chile and began teaching at the Catholic University. He is the author of eight books (some translated into English, German, Polish and Korean) and hundreds of essays and articles about the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Times, Foreign Affairs, Wired and others.

The chilean pensionsystem doesn´t work for the good of the people. Its has became a good business, thats all. The pension for the workers must to be a goverment matter. Only so we can skip continue to pay foreign companies which pump out the money abroad.
