  • btw, can't you cut frequencies from the bass track with an EQ and get the same results?

  • @DaCapo2010 Not the same resulting. EQ can be used to turn down a specific frequency range. Side-chaining is used to turn down the ENTIRE bass track briefly.

  • Joe, at around 5 mins and 6 seconds you said that the bass would be turned down fairly quickly, but with a slow attack...This statement seems kind of confusing.

  • @joe0404 Hi Joe. Yeah, I misspoke. If you look at the actual attack parameter, you'll see that it's very fast. (I meant to say "low" instead of "slow.")

  • awesome tutorials is there neway you could some instances where we/you would use the prefader sends and vice versa?

  • Excellent video!!!!!! Can you do a video that shows how to side chain using EQ (similar to de-essing)?

  • Thanks for sharing. I feel this along with parallel compression on the drums could potentially make for big drums that have a tight relationship with the bass.

  • Thanks Joe, I've been playing with this in my mixes but wasn't sure exactly how it was done. Now I know.

  • I think Joe meant fast attack....1.7ms not slow attack. It needs to be a fast attack for the bass to be compressed immediately to let the kick transient through. :-)

  • Hey is there a way to have this only affected by the kick and not the snare? I noticed in the clip that the snare was taking from the bass as well. Is this what the HF and LF knobs are for?
