DIY:
Inspired by this? You can do it too! Next year you bring a digital compact camera with you. Preferably one that can record videos. Shoot short videos no longer than let's say 20 seconds or shorter. You don't need HD or so to get your message around.
Experiment with tilting, wide angle shots, teleshots, pan from left to right or vice versa. DO NOT use your zoom too much during filming, it makes you lazy and kills dynamics and stability. If you do want to zoom, don't zoom too fast otherwise cheap AF systems will fail to focus properly on time. So for a change use your whole body in order to get that great shot you want. (steadily walk towards your subject) Don't you worry about sound too much, for the recording sound level will be automatically adjusted by the camera's electronics.
Be sharp, stay calm and try to make steady shots, wich can be challenging if you use a handheld camera, especially in telemode and ESPECIALLY if your camera is not larger than a cigarettebox. Be sure you got enough rough material you can take home with you in order to edit your videos. Transfer your film files on to your computer first thing, secure your valuable videos!!
You can upload your individual filmfiles as it is on YouTube, but editing your videos is much more impressive. During the editing process, you can use cool tools and effects to give your video that "professional" look & feel.
TIPS:
- Check your camera battery on a regular basis
- Check diskspace on your memory card
- Clean your lens with a soft cloth when you're not filming
- Set your camera in manual mode for more control
- Don't talk during filming...so stupid
- Overexpose! I consistantly overexposed 2/3!! If not your camera electronics will fail to perform in more complex lighting situations.
- Watch out for beer! Beer and cameras don't mix.
- Have fun.
- Shut down your computer and start filming!
