False NHTSA complaints found in Kane's report to Congress

While CNN and Fox are asleep at the switch Carquestions takes a close up look at Sean Kane's report to Congress titled "Toyota Sudden Unintended Acceleration" In the report he documents 1000 real NHTSA complaints he presents as evidence. Mark digs deeper and finds some of those complaints are listed twice, some are from lawyers and even a complaint where a couple locked themselves in the car and couldn't turn the steering wheel ! Mark checks the first ten complaints in the report and finds more than enough to call Mr. Kane's analysis into question.

@XLDoubleDouble There were a number of them with this date - I think it is breathtakingly careless that Sean Kane manipulated these complaints into data, then drew conclusions from it and then publicized it . A first year statistics student would be kicked out class if they based their research on unverified primary data such as NHTSA complaints.

March 31, 2010, 9:30 pm - Sources familiar with the NHTSA / Toyota investigations have reported to Carquestions that all of the investigations of the past two weeks (more than 8) have all resulted in a finding of "driver error" and no vehicle defects have been found. It is also reported that NHTSA will halt its current round of investigations into Toyota sudden acceleration claims until further notice.
