Sustainable Agriculture - Important Insects
This episode of Feast Or Famine looks into the important contributions insects provide to our food supply. When most people hear the words "insects" and "food crops" in the same sentence, the immediate response is typically "Use pesticides to get rid of the insects!" But in this episode of Feast Or Famine, we are going to look at how certain insects that are introduced to crops act as beneficial substitutes to pesticides.
The insect world is populated with many pollinators but the best known pollinator and man's best friend among the insects is the bee. Besides the pollinating services it renders, this insect provides us with honey, which we eat and beeswax which we use in making candles, polishes, inks and cosmetics. It is hard to imagine what life would be like without the natural pest control, flower pollination, and products provided to us by these beneficial insects.

i was born and raised in california and my family has always had a garden in the backyard....zucchini, tomatoes, oranges, lemons, peppers, corn, etc grows so easily....my dad always looked for "good bugs" to help out and chemicals were kept to a minimum. this produce was always superior in taste to store bought and i'm glad to see the california farm industry keeping things as natural as possible.
