Due to a problem with the P42s, Union Pacific's Rio Grande Heritage Unit came to the rescue somewhere in Colorado. Ironically enough, the California Zephyr was run by the Rio Grange back in the day, so seeing a unit honoring the fallen flag makes it even more awesome. Here we see it passing Berwyn's Lavernge Metra Stop.

  • Great Job

  • TRAIN

  • @HaydenFSX someone made a 4-axle full-body "SD70M-2", the MP40PH-3C. Amtrak needs those units.

  • Why buy two P42's when you can buy one SD70ace to pull the whole train and two broken down P42'S at normal speeds!

  • Who Needs P42s, Why Not Use UP's Heritage Units To Pull These Expresses! XD

  • @trainz675 BNSF Could care less about their engines. If they could run and pull freight, they where still used

  • amtrak was crying to the BNSF, so BNSF hauled about 50 P42's about 4000 miles just so they dont have to bug BNSF when they need BNSF's C44-9W's. lately, BNSF has gave them what BNSF calls "crappy" units (GP38)'s and they cant bug them now, can they?

  • Awesome catch!

  • I never liked the sd70ace's...p42dc's are gay little pieces of shit...

  • Did the amtrak train break down or something?

  • Nice K5LLAR1L!! Also, cool S&H! I woulda murdered to c that.

  • Great catch

  • Random indeed. I wonder if Union Pacific did this intentionally when they lent the locomotive to Amtrak. I bet none of the passengers appreciated this too.

  • I wish every amtrak train was like this!

  • @Yzerfan55 Yea true, GEVO's blow turbos

  • @UP5140SD70M I meant for new motive power, but I agree bring the F40 back

  • @Yzerfan55 Nope Bring back F40PH's

  • Great catch on the UP never seen that before. Favorite

  • @salbug65 they do but with regular units

It was especially Ironic because for the leg of the CZ that they rescued was operated by Rio Grande before the birth of Amtrak!

  • @CatskillMountainRail They run with two power units because of the rocky's and they run with one for most of the way until they hit the Mountain Ranges

  • that was epic, and awesome

  • @CatskillMountainRail Pretty sure Metro North doesn't have to cross the Rockies, the Wasatch or Sierra Nevada mountains.

  • wats the consits?

  • Nice catch there.
