  • @kenmaunder - My husband and I were also concerned that our children would miss out on the socialization available in the public schools...so once a week we take our kids into the bathroom, cuss at them, push them around, steal their lunch money, and offer them drugs, and that seems to take care of it. As for under educated, my 11 year old is in her fourth year of Latin, Biology and Algebra 1. Nuff said.

  • "Well at least you got that blue ribbon school award.."

  • for humans to have evoled fom apes even with out convictions. Also we knew from great grandma on reservation her stories were far more acurate then crud written in text book. so yeah

  • I think me and few of my sibs would have better off homeschooled brother was to smart and me and one sis report cards always read integlegent but something abouy back talk or sassing off when we did neither we just werent gonna tolerate teacher saying something we knew was wrong we did it respectfully we raised are had said sorry mr or misses so and so but that fact you are stating or the fact in this book is wrong we had reasonbly knew earth was only thousands of yrs old and was implauasible

  • How is being out in the real world with real people (both good & bad) hiding? How is having them interact with people who do NOT share their own religious or political values putting a secuirty blanket over them? They interact with people of all backgrounds, races, religions & so forth. How is that "world" small?

They are in the real world already. Why wait until they graduate from HS to experience it?

  • @kenmaunder You quickly take sides based on stereotypes yet you lack any empirical research. The likelihood that you personally know any homeschooling families is low. Your mindset shows a limited and upside down world view which is most likely the product of a public education. The only thing robbed from these children is the garbage the public school system would expose them to.

  • To charles0322mrsdani. Your response shows me your own socialization skills are lacking. You make my point better than anything I could say myself. I feel sad for you that through your own fear, your world has become so small. BTW, Your child may experience something negative, even scary in public schools, but bad or scary things can happen anywhere. You can't put a thick enough security blanket over them without eventually suffocating them. Hiding is not the answer, communication and trust is.

  • Does it REALLY make sense that a child who is out in the real world every day interacting with people would be socially awkard? As opposed to a child who sits behind a desk all day and repeatedly told, "Quit talking. You are hear to learn not socialize." or maybe it was jut me the teachers told that to in school?

  • Think about it. Homeschooled children are out in the real world with real people all day long, not stuck in the four walls of a building with the same children and adults all day every day.

  • is more socialized than a child who generally finished their work by noonish and is with kids of all ages (from baby to adult) and adult (in all stages of life) from all backgrounds, religions, and economic brackets in a variety of events (like cultural events, museums, zoos, stores, clubs, volunteer charitable work, classes, sports teams, play dates, just to name a few). (continued)

  • So let me see if I understand what you are saying. You are saying a child that spends 180 days a year with kids that are within 5 months of their own age, are generally like them (because lets be honest, most people tend to live with others like them), are allowed to talk for 30 min or so at lunch (providing they don’t get too loud) and 30 min at recess& few min between classes, (continued)
