@Puffi10r But isn't Nezumi contradicting himself if he's scared of Shion changing? After all, he is the one who keeps baiting Shion and saying stuff like 'you know nothing' and 'you won't survive if you keep thinking like this, you clueless idiot', etc...

@FlamesInTheMoon in the novels their relationship is really complicated. Nezumi is scared of Shion, though he really cares about him. He feels Shion is changing the more he stays with him.. i think that's one of the reasons he leaves him in the end.. there are a lot of other interpretations but i think this is what fits their personality better ^^

I always thought Nezumi was afraid of losing Shion like he lost all the other people he cared about in the past (or so it says in the manga)...

This was so sad. You really captured the complexity of their relationship, it's refreshing since lately all I can find are frivolous pairing vids for this anime (which I do like, but they get old after a while)

I saw talk about the novels, so I'll put in my opinion as well
The novels are indeed WAY more detailed, realistic, and more intricate in plot than the actual anime. Their relationship was expressed without being rushed and Shion's character shifted in a way that wasn't represented very nicely in the anime. More people should read the novels if they like the anime- or at least the manga since it takes more from the novels!
