READ ME PLEASE IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS!

Since putting up this tutorial -- http://sterlingruinsfall337.deviantart.com/art/How-to-save-transparent-files-... up on DeviantART.com a few people have mentioned that they're having issues with options missing and such so I thought to post an actual video on how to save transparent files using the program Paint Tool SAI.

Sorry if it's not the best video/tutorial out there but hopefully it makes sense.
Also, I don't mean to sound like an ass while talking, I'm not trying to be rude of sound jerkish. It's just how I talk. ^^;

Key notes:

- The version of SAI that I am using is Version 1.1.0 which is the basic version (so it's not a highly advanced 'special' version or something). Just the plain and simple version.
- The copy of SAI that I am using here is an official copy which came from the SAI website and it has a liscence agreement file attached as well as an offical serial code.
Meaning it is NOT a trial version.
- The system which I am using is Windows 7 (but I have used Windows Vista as well as XP with SAI and both work fine when using SAI)
SAI does not have a compatibility ratio to work with Apple/Mac computers.
- I used Quick Screen Recorder to record this video.
- I did draw the image used in this video as an example but this is not a drawing video.
- In some cases trial versions of SAI will not allow the option of saving transparent files while in other cases it does allow it. As to why this is I do not know, I did not write the program.
If you do have an official liscenced copy if SAI and the options shown do NOT show up then chances are you got a copy or version that is not complete and files or components are missing.
Even old versions of SAI should allow transparency saving options.
If you are able try to update your program if possible or reinstall it or redownload it from another site (I'd suggest the official site -- http://www.systemax.jp/sai/ or if it will work this site -- http://sai.detstwo.com/)

Sorry for coughing in your ear but my throat decided to start getting scratchy while talking lol (figures) but I tried to cough away from the microphone.
:| Also excuse my breathing in your ear. I'm not being fresh...my mic just tends to pick up EVERYTHING...
._.

So yeah, I hope this helps and if not I am sorry... I tried.

+_enjoy_+

  • Or, another way to do it to create a layer underneath all of your others, click on the bucket tool and fill it with a color, any color! Now, go to the "Mode" and select "Luminosity". Then, go to "Layer" and select "Luminosity to transparent", the shortcut key for that is "O". You have to be on your layer that has the luminosity color for it to work. Save it as PNG and your picture will get a transparent background! :D Anyways, thats how I do it.

  • @ThaoPhu999 There you go! :D Thank you for sharing that! *highfives*

Just in case this method doesn't work for some people they can always try that :)

    Thank you again

  • i got the one from their website and that png thing never shows up .-.

  • @demonwolfproduction1

Is it a full license copy? Meaning, did you buy or purchase the ID codes and serials needed?

  • Hm, mine doesn't have that ):

The original from their website, doesn't have all of those brushes o: Why?

  • @AlexandoriaART The way to get more tools is by going into the tools box, right click, and a list of tools will show up. Click on a blank box in the tools area and then pick the tool you want from the list and it will be added to the tools arsenal :) That's how I did it.

  • @ScarlingRagdoll Well, in the original i've seen, there aren't Ol water etc.

    - I have a version with these tools, but it doesn't seem to be in the original one o:

I need to purchase the program eventually.. When i pay back my parents the 1000 dollars i owe them e_e Oh the joy of a sick dog and vet bills.

But the one you linked last, is that an official one too? Even though fan-made of course. Cause it wants me to put in a serial code.

  • @ScarlingRagdoll ahh that would be way it doesnt work. oh well awesome tutorial, ill just go back to using photoshop for transparent lol.
