Good point, my city picks up branches only twice a year... and summer storms cause downed branches that could be my garden mulch! A chipper Shredder is a little too pricey for me,,, heh.
Now, if I could only convince the city to purchase the solar power array.... for city vehicles, of course, but open to the public... that could also be very cool.
well the first thing is to vote in someone who will change your local ordinances, so that it isn't a major pain to do something. The second thing is to learn to cooperate with your neighbors which means the isolate and autonomous nature of life has to go. From that basis you
can go to electric vehicles using a solar power array to charge which belongs to all of
you (cooperative joint ownership) then start swapping your surplus from individual gardens.
I don't think I'd want 10 roosters waking me up either, LOL. Canning is SUPER hard work and time consuming. Very few people who work full time would ever do that unless the alternative was starving to death. As a practical matter a home veggie garden for summer veggies is about as far along the road to sustainability as most suburbs will get I'd say. One thing I'd personally like to see is cities that pick up leaves and chip up limbs make that material easily available as mulch for people to use
