22 years on, and Coldcut are still one of the most innovative and passionate forces in dance music. Having met in Soho's Reckless records back in '86, they soon set about collaborating on various bootleg style productions, and before long were remixing big names like Erik B & Rakim (their classic mix of Paid In Full) after being spotted by an Island Records rep.

Over the years, their maverick style of sampling from everywhere and anywhere and combining them with dancey beats got them a show on London's KissFM and production work with big '80s stars like Yazz and Lisa Stansfield, with the inception of their acclaimed Ninja Tune label in 1991. Over the years, the label has explored the breadth of the electronic music realm, with artists like Mr. Scruff, The Herbaliser, DJ Vadim, Bonobo, Cinematic Orchestra, Wiley and Roots Manuva all brought into the limelight on the imprint and on its sub-label Big Dada. Of course, they've also been one of the foremost exponents of combining DJing with visual manipulation, taking it too it many years before most others caught up.

Ahead of the release of their Producers' sample pack DVD for Loopmasters, we had a chat with them at Ninja Tune HQ about studio habits, sampling, and their new album.
