why was this edited?

No, I'm pretty certain that it cannot be an end in itself. Perhaps it lies in how picky one wants to be with the word "happiness"... I'm pretty sure a person would contribute to the world either a) because it makes them *happy* or b) because they believe some divinity expects it of them. You say that striving for happiness is self-centered... it makes me happy to take care of my kids.. to achieve... etc... again, I think it lies in how we define happiness and its pursuit.

Productive and purposeful can't be an end in itself? Okay, how about because being a productive human being is what makes others love us. It is also our contribution to our world. On the other hand, striving for happiness is self-centered and based solely on fleeing emotions and circumstances of which we have little control.

To what end?

Couldn't you be happily productive and purposeful? Give me happiness over misery any day.
-
could this imply that happiness and sadness are both illusory?

Can someone give me a simplified version of the point. I pretty much get it but I just wanna make sure. thx
