I never thought Pat Methey's "Have You Heard" would meet its match in number of time signature changes, but this song actually comes pretty close. It is really subtle too, I always thought the meter jumped around at times but I finally got around to looking at the sheet music. Damn!

the pens and penknives are included in the song as she used to jab them into her neck to try and ease or distract from the pain in her vertebrae. now she does yoga to deal with that.
however, all songs are open to interpretation as long as people can relate to them in some way and derive enjoyment from the lyrics.

haha how simple the content of the song.. but its great anyway :)

I don't think it feels the same way, I've been picking my cuticles until bloody red since I was 2-3 years old. I loved when I realised this song was about finger picking since I never would thought a song would be made about my problem. I even told her myself to try to use oil lotion in her concert since it hides the whiteness of dry skin. It's a bad habit, says in the song title!

i don't really see how it refers to that to be honest. fair enough that was the intent but..i can't really see where "pens and pen-knives take the blame...scratch my name" like..huh?

Ha I know what you mean, YouTube has the most crack up arguements.
I choose to not partake in one of them! I know exact;y how it feels to have your opinion stamped on and how irritating it is.
In my opinion, people can think and like whatever they want.
wait wait wait... did 2 people of differing opinions just come to an amicable agreement on youtube?
Shit I better head to Walmart and stock up on water and ammo.

It doesn't matter if your gnawing your fingers to the bone or slicing your arm to the vein. It's the same feeling, and likely to have the same causes. Amanda wrote it about her finger biting, but people can think about their own form of self-harm when they listen to this song.
