I read about a U-Boat that the Germans scuttled near the end of the war to keep her out of Allied hands, that was raised in the 1950's and because she was still so advanced, they refurbished her and put her back into service.

U-boats were very superior to many other forms of naval vessel.... and P.S. their specialty was targeting singular but large ships which were useless once their 'spine' would snap.

So lets start fresh and not get on the wrong track... a simple question: In what way were the Japanese U-boats superior and their crews? I am serious about this information because I studied German U-boats and love to learn new things.
