Hormones are substances produced by a gland in one area of the body, which are released into the blood stream and sent as chemical messengers to other parts of the body where they act on receptors to instruct a cell to perform a particular action.
As we age many of the hormones decline particularly Human Growth Hormone (HGH). By about age 25 the pituitary gland is already releasing less HGH than earlier, to the point where by age 40 HGH levels can often be about 50% of what they were at 20, and by 60 about a third. Evidence points to these diminishing HGH levels being related to some of the changes of aging. Restoring levels to those we had when we were younger helps us to look and feel younger too.
This is how the system works.
The release of growth hormone in the body is governed by a feed back loop. HGH when released into the circulation by the pituitary gland circulates and attaches itself to receptors on the cells, in particular liver cells where it signals two things; One is regeneration and repair of the cell, the other is the release of another longer lasting protein hormone call IGF-1 or Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1. The half-life of HGH in the circulation is very brief (20 minutes), but its messenger IGF-1 is much longer, about 22 hours.
It is through this other regeneration and repair signaling protein, IGF-1, that much of the work of HGH is done. Our cells have receptors for this small protein to attach to, to signal the renewal of the regeneration and repair process. Optimization of HGH and IGF-1 levels can improve many of changes that occur as we age.
Interestingly another area of the brain called the hypothalamus is busily monitoring the levels of HGH and IGF-1 in the bloodstream and when they have reached an optimum the hypothalamus releases another hormone called Somatostatin, which shuts down the release of growth hormone. This ensures that just the right amount is released for the individual. Somatostatin is also released from the pancreas, thyroid and intestines to ensure proper control of growth hormone and IGF-1 levels.
Injections of HGH, of course, bypass this whole safety mechanism.
There are only 2 ways to elevate growth hormone levels, one is by injection which is both expensive and potentially unsafe if not accurately and extensively monitored, and the other is with SomaLife's patented stack of amino acids that supports the body's release of its own human growth hormone.
