Thanks to segagenesis1989 who gave me the idea to make this video: http://www.youtube.com/segagenesis1989

The Revenge of Shinobi (The Super Shinobi) was a video game released by Sega in the year 1989. It was the first Shinobi game developed for MegaDrive / Genesis console. The introductory title screen features famous martial arts actor Sonny Chiba dressed as Hattori Hanzō from the popular Kage No Gundan TV series. The game is a side scrolling platformer game. The player controls Joe Musashi through many levels consisting of 8 districts before the final confrontation with the head of Neo Zeed. The game has acclaimed soundtracks made by the famous video game music composer Yuzo Koshiro.

  • Maybe one day you get it back. I love the music in this game. :)

  • Haha! Thanks for the dedication narox! When I logged onto youtube a few minutes ago and saw you post this video, I knew it had to do with our conversation yesterday. :)

There are two areas that some players will find extremely difficult. I believe it is stage 7, level 2 (jumping from dock to dock). There is one area that must be timed perfectly, otherwise the ocean will eat you up. The other stage is stage 8, level 2: you must go through the underground maze to the Neo Zeed stronghold

  • @segagenesis1989 Cheers Ninja Master

  • I've totally never understood why this Shinobi entry is so hyped and regarded as better compared to Shinobi 3, seriously. Characters' animations are as stiff as a ramrod, and maniabilty is just as stiff (jumping from blocks to blocks especially is a nightmare). Whereas in Shinobi 3, animations are liquid, graphics are colorful and detailed, and maniability and gameplay are smooth and diversified (gotta love the dash/slash and the flying kick, among others !).

  • Loved playing this when i was a kid.

  • Hi sidearmsalpha:

Apologies for my delay in responding to your question. I was on vacation to good ol' England and just got back today. With respect to the cartridge revisions, there is no way to physically discern one version from the other except to play the game itself. I am looking for version 1.00 myself and am hopeful that I will find one! It's one of my all time favourite games on any console! :)

  • Is there way to tell what revision a cart is from the title screen? I have revision 1.00, but I borrowed it from my best friend. I would check it, but it's buried somewhere in storage. I want to get my own copy.

  • I perfer Shinobi III but the music is the easily the best in the series. Yuzo rocks :D

  • yeah, probably. i even heard some comic book fans being worried that with Disney owning Marvel, that many of their characters *cough*ThePunisher*cough* would be watered down.

  • A pink spiderman? That would look a little weird. I associate the color pink with the pink panther.

I imagine now that Disney now owns Marvel will make negotiations with game designers even tougher.

Thanks for the info regarding The R of S release on the VC! :)
