Alonso is an emotional idiot. Whilst he is a reasonable driver, he was largely blown away by Hamilton when at Mclaren. Sure, Alsonso is outpacing Massa, but he would be a number 2 at most front running teams. Then, at Silverstone after securing third on the grid, which is nothing to shout about, he waves to the British fans saying "Bye Bye Go Home Go Home", smiling. He did this purely as he beat Hamilton, when he should only be focused on being fastest, i.e. pole. Typical Spanish tempremant.

The redbull was lighter even more than that, and the spark plug issue affected many laps prior to the sudden loss in power when a cylinder shut down in the engine. Its called a spark plug missfire.
Alonso could have never caught Vettel. The redbulls are out of reach on pure pace. Vettel was pulling away 0.4sec a lap on the hard tyres immediately after the pitstops. Its good win but not on pace. But due to attrition.
