We're still finding depth hoar on all aspects particularly on slopes that have thin snow cover. This location has only 70cm total snow. This is a West aspect at 7700'. Similar condition exists on the East and South aspects. North aspects are much deeper and don't demonstrate the degree of faceting we see on thin snow covered slopes. It takes a lot of force to get these slabs to fail, but when they fail, they fail to the gound and propagte over a large area.
