This clip montage shows the progression of the demolition (to date) of the 1965 Columbia Savings Building in Los Angeles. Located at the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and La Brea Ave. on the city's Miracle Mile, this important example of post-World War II bank architecture (which later served as a church) is nearly gone, despite more than a year of intensive advocacy efforts to preserve it. It will be replaced with a large mixed-use development. Its demolition underscores the challenges we face in preserving buildings of the 1960s, which begin turning 50 years old this year yet are still largely misunderstood and underappreciated.
