http://bananamana.com/wen-yang-lion-dance-troupe-o260-en.html For those who missed the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Singapore Zoo here's a video of the Wen Yang Lion Dance Troupe performing the Northern Lion Dance. From the "BananaMana Guys", wishing you a prosperous and happy Tiger Year!

The Northern Lion Dance was used as entertainment for the imperial court, and the lions come in pairs, which resemble Pekingese or Fu Dogs. Their movements are very life-like, incorporating lots of acrobatics and stunts. For more information on Northern Lion Dance and performances, click on the link above.

  • im looking for that music/track in the clip/movie..

  • @amrietkalpoe You can click on the link in the description, and then email Wen Yang Lion Association. They might be able to give you details on the song they used. Good luck!

  • last time... i thought northern lion dance sucks.. after watching this video.. it is cool! haha! now.. i m watching more video of northern lion dance video!

  • @zzzvanessazzzful We were like you too. Southern lion was so much more dynamic, but after studying with Wen Yang troupe who does both styles, we learned that it's actually more difficult than Southern. Check out some of the Northern lion teams from Beijing, they're pretty tight. Thanks for the comment!

  • @zzzvanessazzzful These guys really are awesome athletes and they combine that with great theatrics.

  • @zzzvanessazzzful Thanks! Yes, Northern lion is very different, but it's pretty exciting to watch. The heads are made out of wood, so they're even heavier than Southern lion heads. It's a very athletic art form.

  • @amrietkalpoe it's called long teng hu yue. I can't type chinese on this com, but a very rough literal translation is flying dragons and jumping tigers.
