Greater Yellowstone Coalition staffers Mark Pearson and Jeff Welsch observed the launch of Montana's bison hazing efforts on May 11. The state's helicopter hovered at tree-top level while harassing the bison toward Yellowstone National Park from the Flats on the Gallatin National Forest south of Hebgen Lake. The helicopter ranged far inside Yellowstone, pushing the bison well over a mile beyond the park boundary. You don't typically expect to see low-flying aircraft purposely harassing wildlife herds in America's most famous national park.
