  • I like to know more about the rcv 120 cant find much about them like over heating, life of the engine, the web site says 6000 rpm is this the prop rpm or the engine since it has a 2 to 1 gearing..I plan on using one in my 1\4 fairchild 22 it was a kit that was mad by orline about 25 years ago although the kit is 24 lbs I have seen that model fly here on youtube with a 120 satio and it seem to fly pretty good one of the things that I really like is that it turns a 20x10 prop.

  • Hi, 6000 is the prop RPM. 24lbs is a little on the high side unless its a really big wing area and can fly fairly slowly, in which case the thrust you get off a big slow prop e.g. 20x10 may be enough. RCV Engines are now supplied by Weston UK, they're on the web. Thanks Keith

  • See the old test guard is just about holding up;)

  • Hi Wayne

All the old guards are holding up nicely! Big and small!.

Oh and Dave says thanks for machining the chairmans indicator rod!!! No there's a cryptic comment to anyone not familiar with Sturmey Archer gearboxes

  • Do you have any dimensions and timing figures for your rotary valve head, it runs very well and i'd like to use the design on a model v8 engine.

  • Ravivos1010,

You are wrong. the prop is spinning in the right direction. Watch the upper pulley and the movement of the belt when it stops.... hint; the markings on the belt itself will show that it's moving at the correct direction.

  • HI, Glad you like our engines.

I can assure you this engine rotates in the normal CCW direction. The apparent CW movement is due to the strobing affect of the film. Note the printing on the timing belt, at 7000RPM it appears to move one way, at 6000 the other. Same effect!

This is an ultra low cost engine intended for strimmers etc. The vid is intended to interest corporations we're approaching with the concept. Amazing how many modellers have already viewed it!

    Regards Keith

  • Hi Keith

I really dont want to argue with you.

I love RCV engines and own two of them.

unfortunately, the last 4 seconds of the video clearly shows that the engine spins the wrong direction

    anyway, have a good day.

  • Prop is a standard APC and is definitely CCW as all normal props.

Numbers are absolutely correct. RCV's business is developng, making and selling engines, and we very experienced at using fixed prop loads to measure power output. In general use the standard prop/RPM equations and derate by 20%!

  • It looks like a nice engine and concept but in this video the engine spins the prop CCW but the prop is a CW one.

Because the prop spins the wrong direction , the numbers are irrelevant.

    nice engine thou.
