  • This is, in my opinion, one of the best movements of music ever written period.

  • I live for the 'cello parts that Shosti writes!!

  • Haunting!

  • I never thought about it, but it must very nerve-wracking for the trombones to have to play that introduction in the fourth movement after resting for all of 14 minutes or so.

  • It appears that Bass has 5 strings. That is unusual

  • 1:58!!!!!! so amazing... this = definitely one of the best movements ever made i think, it messes with my mind :)

  • 1:00-1:54. Proof of God´s existence...

  • 1:21-2:41 = AMAZING

  • Which orchestra is this?

  • I had friends seeing me play Shostakovich 5 tonight and they wanted me to smile more. So I really really tried to tap into the music's feeling and look for happy bits... however, when this movement came along, I got sooooo sad!

  • Shostakovich premiered this symphony on november 21, 1937 during the terrible stalisnistic regime and was accused of a formalist, so he had to change in future works his "manners" to adjust to the ruler on power
