THE SUBJECT:
Batch 82 is akin to a way of life, a state of mind. The natural forces that confront it are both brutally swift (relationships gone awry, evaporation of good-health invincibility) and infinitely slow (tug-o-war of parenting and career, elusive search for that prince to un-frog.) In response, the batch's attitude is both accepting and proudly defiant- determined to deal and cope; rather than control the forces.
We quaked a bit staring at the disconnect between passionate schoolgirl dreams and midlife realities glossed with worldly wisdom. Our school gates (if an early insulator) could not protect us from the shock waves of adulthood massing way beyond. The challenges have been tough- but so apparently is our resilience.
The camaraderie was instant and delightful. It does not matter who made a splash or a mere ripple. We have made peace with the gap between the razzle-dazzle of being special... and the comforts of being just wonderfully ordinary. Now we are aware how fleeting time can be, so we resolve to forge onwards to shape our own histories, instead of just drifting through.
Batch 82 ruminated and figured out the one formula that never failed to pull us through: we stay hungry, we stay foolish....
Enjoy our slideshow! (It is a big file... allow it to load for about 3 minutes to avoid skips.)
CREDITS:
Photos and slideshow by Dennis D: Full artistic credit goes to Dennis. It is often said that all photographs are subjective-- they are the photographer's interpretations of the world before his eye. This seems paradoxical because by using his subjects of everyday-- former schoolmates, landscapes, deserted cabin by the lake, weathered bench-- DD captures the beauty of people and things in their objective environments. He seems to have an aversion to commercialism (otherwise, he wouldn't have gone to Vegas for this pro bono gig!) Genuinely passionate for the art itself, he photographed our event's most banal moments and immortalized them as silly fun. Photo enthusiasts- check out his work on facebook. Search 'Dennis Dimaano Photography' then click 'Like.' Dennis is happily 'taken.'
Music by Black Eyed Peas: Apologies to UMG, the official sound recording entity for the band. By uploading the material, the account holder most likely infringed Copyright... but I'll take the risk of incarceration anyway because the slideshow would be SO drab without the beat! As long as I do not make a buck from this production, hope this 'oversight' will slide. The origination of the content is solely for entertainment, not for profit. Besides, this is free advertisement (this disclosure gives me wiggle room under fair-use law)... If you like the music, please buy it at iTunes!
Thanks to Grace V who will distribute this link in social networks for viral reach. She claims this is her first time to dabble into podcasting something 'bootlegged.' I guess I will see you in jail! Acting as the Herald in most events, she has taken on the monumental task of keeping the batch in the loop. Grace is married and has a daughter.
Blurb by YVR: YVR is a blogger-wanna-be. Her bucket list includes traveling ala Nat Geo crew, writing dark sci-fi thriller novels, learning how to make stinky cheese and how to pair it with a robust wine ala sommelier. For now, she has to keep her day job so there will be food on her table (and hats in her closet.) YVR believes 'you are what you wear'... so let's talk about 'the hat' (easier to describe the inanimate.)
The hat is fearless, kick-ass, confident, humorous, and brimming with chutzpah and charm. Misunderstood for its hideous audacity, the hat is often relegated to the arrogant heap. But you should really give the hat a chance- after all; its style is an acquired taste. If you stick around a little while longer, it just might pleasantly surprise you.
PS) Hat girl (okay to misspell to 'Hot' gal) is single. Hat girl is searching...
