In this video I demonstrate how diodes work in a manner you may not want to try at home. At least not without safety glasses and hearing protection,

  • Hmm, only labels I've seen is quite a few of them have what looks like a 0 written on them but thats it. Most have no visible labelling at all :( some larger ones have more text but they're in the minority and are purely numbers only. Guess I'll just have to guess and test.

  • @M3ta7h3ad Sometimes they use a jumper which is more like a piece of wire. I believe the zero represents a jumper.

  • My question is how do you identify what is what in surface mount packages?

I am trying to repair a tv and a common fault is a surface mount fuse and diode fail, only I've no idea how to "find it" amongst the other non-descript black squares.

  • @M3ta7h3ad They are generally designate with a D prefix followed by a series of numbers,

Example. D403 and transistors start with Q. I As far as knowing the part number, I'm not sure.

  • were did you get the capacitors (they're rare)

  • @jphiiarc There not rare. I soldered them all together in parallel.

  • lamp test also do work..try making your diode as a switch..if the lamp is too bright then your diode is broken. And if your lamp will go bright then gradually goes DIM your diode is still GOOD!

  • Thanks for the video..is was very help full and educational. Also very exciting sorry . LOL

  • Hello, I saw your video on youtube on the crystal radio, can you please send me the data for the coil and variable capacitor, mounted as a tuned circuit, thank you so much

  • haha love your vids.
