A 28-year-old Plymouth woman has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 1 hit-and-run death of 17-year-old Andrew J. Dexter Jr., Bourne police said this morning.

My first reaction was to cry, said Andrew Dexter, the teen's dad. I'm sad I lost my son, but I'm happy the police worked so hard with the district attorney's office to get the person who left my son to die.

Andrew J. Dexter Jr. was hit in the early morning hours of Jan. 1 as he walked along Head of the Bay Road after leaving a New Year's Eve party sometime around 2:30, police said. His body was found behind a guard rail on the westbound side of Head of the Bay Road at 8:10 a.m. by a passerby.

Mastandrea, a waitress at the Mezza Luna Restaurant in Buzzards Bay, has been a person of interest since shortly after the accident, when a tipster told the Bourne police that a vehicle matching hers was in the vicinity of the accident. Police impounded the Ford Explorer, but Mastandrea refused to speak with investigators.

She is expected to be arraigned at Falmouth District Court this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Andrew Dexter Jr.'s father is headed to Falmouth District Court to witness the arraignment. In the days and weeks since his son's death, Dexter has maintained a Facebook tribute page along with other family members and has posted signs on his Wareham business seeking justice for his son.

I can't thank everyone enough. The community has been fantastic and understanding, Dexter said of the massive outpouring since his son's death. They've been as angry as we are waiting for results. I can't express how much I appreciate the support I've received from the community.

  • I hope that the woman NEVER gets out of prison. Anybody who chooses to pull something that stupid should never be trusted in public.

  • @Alienmad462 get a life

  • i wanted to hear an american say plymoth.

weird hearing it an american accent. tis an english town :D

  • @JohnB1217. Hey JohnB. Gotta tell you - my conscience is clear. It is not my responsibility to pick up underage people walking the streets at night. And I am pretty sure it was Andrew, given the facts of the case and the timing. But you are right, a young life could have been saved if it had just been driven home by its parents or friends. It is not my conscience in question.

  • Not Andrew. Clear you conscience and next time you see spmeone in that predicament, stop and pick them up. You may just save a young life.

  • What happened to Andrew Dexter Jr. is tragic. I drove past a young man walking on the Bourne Bypass road in those wee hours. Hoodie and jeans wet from the freezing rainy snow. A cell phone held to his left ear. Not steady on his feet. A state police cruiser passed in the opposite direction. I thought about offering a ride. I saw this person pass the end of my street. I went in. I do not know if this was Andrew. I do know Andrew should have been driven home by a friend or parent.

  • at about 0:57 the little girl in the back is his little sis

  • I agree....to just leave someone on the roadside to die it just cold. She deserves anything and everything she gets

  • hope she doesn't get bail..its bad enough she has had 3 months of freedom after killing someone

  • Nice bracelets Andrea - you can hide from the camera all you want but you can no longer hide from SWEET JUSTICE! The word you are searching for is "GUILTY!" For once in your pathetic life - do the right thing!!!!
