Paul McCartney tells a story that the day Sgt Pepper was released, he went to a club to see Jimi Hendrix. The Beatles had never played the song together as a band, it was all overdubs in the studio. Jimi opened the show with this song. He heard it that day & put it together. McCartney was stunned to hear it.
