Pro drifters change cars all the time. Look at imamura, he's had a lot of different cars. I think its based on offers from sponsors and things like that.

its a Judging matter like figure skating for qualifying and for the Tsuiso (battles) its about how the chaser putt pressure on the leader , vice versa
