  • Anyone else feel that their releases on Roadrunner Records always sound badly produced? The three albums they did on Relapse seemed perfect, with every instrument sounding extremely clear but still heavy. Now, hearing this album, the drums sound muddled at times, with the snare blending in with the cymbals and even the guitars and bass seeming to have lost a lot of definition. Am I just being an anal prick, or is this noticable?

  • 1 person liked the old school sound better.

  • Chunky as fuck! And as far as the roadrunner albums sounding bad, that seems unfounded, as Effigy was released, not only on RR, but in 1991, and sounds fucking great! Their s/t album had probably some of the weirdest guitar tones those guys have ever had, dark and moody, but not very heavy at all. Blood Oath just seems a little to "polished," either way, I'm stoked for some new shit!

  • @AGore88 I actually prefer the Roadrunner albums, but i think that's cause I have super appreciation for Scott Burns because he pretty much gave 90's death metal its sound.

  • @baraqijal15 well, they also had riffs like that on "Effigy of the Forgotten"^^

  • Wow, none of you kids know what the fuck you're talking about. Suffocation was all about being heavy, ever since the beginning. They're using fucking triplets, big deal. This song is 100% rhythm and groove, just because you can't count it doesn't make it shitty music. It makes you a shitty listener. This song is in C standard, like every other Suffocation tune. You kids make me sick.

  • @baraqijal15 I don't know if your talking about the same song and band as I am. Suffocation lost its "cave sound"? YES, that was a natural progression of almost every band of that era, you can like it or not, personally I do, in the other hand Im a fan of old school finnish death. I dont hear any "open note" riff at all!! haha, this is as elaborated and progressive as brutal death can be. And I believe this song is in B. Nothing that you said makes sense.

  • @antikriszt I still think the songs lack that atmospheric scary cave man sound that they used to have. This kinda sounds like Job for a cowboy or one of those new deathcore emo core bands. Its to chuggy. too much open note drop Z chug chug dun dun dun don don. "lets see how heavy we can be" faaacckk offf neww death metal.

  • I understand if people like the older albums or the newer albums more than the other, but comparing Suffocation (easily one of the most influencing and original death metal bands to ever exist, not to me, but to almost every great band you like) to Slipknot, its just pointless and lacks of total sense. The style of Suffocation is INTACT, they've only polished their sound (like it or not), but if you compare the songs they re-recorded you wont find much difference in their style at all. RESPECT.
