A AR-15 or large magazine ban would not prevent a mentally ill person from buying a "legal" weapon of any kind.

The answer to the problem youve presented is that the current gun laws need to be enforced better, not changed.

Obviously I know that, but do you think everybody who is mentally ill goes around saying they are mentally ill before purchasing these weapons? The majority of these people who have gone on these mass shootings had little prior indication of being mentally unstable, the only proof of it is after the fact they've killed everyone.

Yes but you don't see secret service, or cops, or nuclear power plant operator on the news having mass shootings killing students, children and firefighters. It's people who have got to be mentally disturbed to do something like that and have legally been able to get assault rifles to do so. I believe if one person wants to kill another, there is not much you can do to stop it. Its the mass shootings that can be reduced, why do civilians need high powered rifles?
