Voyage to the Orient
NUS Symphony Orchestra (NUSSO)
Featuring Geoffrey Saba
13 Mar, 8pm, UCC Hall
$19 & $16
Under the baton of Maestro Lim Soon Lee, NUSSO will be joined by awardwinning piano virtuoso Geoffrey Saba in the Singapore premiere of Peter Sculthorpe's Piano Concerto, which was inspired by Japanese court music and the Balinese gamelan. The concert will also feature Raintree for Full Orchestra, a special piece commissioned from local composer Chen Zhangyi by the Orchestra. Join us, and end off the spectacular night with the enchanted wonderland of the Arabian Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.
UK-based Australian piano virtuoso Geoffrey Saba made his London debut in the 1970s, winning a bronze medal at the First Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. Since then, he has toured the world over, astounding audiences with his large repertoire that encompasses rarely-performed music of the early 20th century. His bestselling recordings for Carlton Classics have achieved tremendous critical acclaim. They include his performances of Russian virtuoso works, unusual and romantically flamboyant transcriptions and a Schubert recital.
