Faron cut this hit for Capitol Records on Oct 12, 1952. On electric guitar is Mr. Chet Atkins. Don't forget, pick up a copy of Diane Diekmam's book "The Faron Young Story-Live fast, love hard. It's a must for Faron Young fans.

  • Great singer here!

    Thanks!

  • Isn't interesting how C&W artists would record the same songs as other artists in the 50's-60's. I really loved George Morgan's version of this tune, but I'm not at all disappointed with Faron's version, he was great.

  • It didn't hurt to have Chet helping out too.

  • There just has be be said something for 3 cords and a voice.

  • Read Diane's book which gave a lot of insight into Faron's life. Like so many really talented ppl. he seemed to be a little narcistic. However, that aside he was one of my most admired singers. His range was extensive with a voice that could be molded to the song he was singing.

  • @ImWithTheTide - I hear you but Brenda Lee's version reduces me to tears every time I hear it.

  • @NeilThompson,

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with the Stewart Family. Faron was the first name artist to record it. Or at the least to have it as one side of a hit record.

As I remember Solomon Burke was the pop artist who changed open arms to empty arms.

  • @glipzik - the original is The Stewart Family (1951) - Virgil Stewart wrote it.

  • Great

  • Interesting that when they began covering this song, open arms was changed to empty arms. I can't recall who first covered it, but I think it was a pop artist.

  • @kkk1jac So if you want your doors blown off, check the Real version. I woke up this morning and the movie Dahmer was on and this song was playing, and I had to find out who the golden pipes were, and it was Patsy Cline. Awesome, Enjoy!

  • Listen to Patsy Cline's version to have your doors blown off!
