In this work, we explored an ultrasonic based localization system whose methodology is very different than the conventional Time-of-Flight (ToF) method. We design and build a low cost high precision range-finding system utilizing a combination of radio frequency and ultrasound. Experimental result (as shown in the video) shows that as the target is moved toward or away from the reference point, the amplitude of the superposed signal shoot up at fixed points which are all 9mm apart. Using this method with a high frequency ultrasonic wave the target can be located with in few millimeters of its true position. If you find it interesting, please contact me.

so if you wanted to track a point in 3D you would need 2 receivers? Would there be a noticeable delay tracking it through the computer in 3D?
