April 4, 2009
A small group of Kiwanians and community volunteers desended upon the local Madison County Pet Shelter as part of the Kiwanis International One Day Project initiative. It was windy and quite chilly for April.
Kiwanis President Elect David C Miller, designed and planned the 10' x 12' x 8' storage building that would be used for pet food donated by the Walmart Distribution Center in Bentonville, AR.
The project started at 7 AM and by 5 PM the mostly novice carpenters had the building 90% completed.
After a breif lunch break for Pizza from "That Little Pizza Place" owner and Past President Tom Wiles, the crew was back to the task at hand.
All of the building materials were donated by Pine Creek Lumber and Don Anderson. Thank You!
The following week "Dad" Dan Miller Sr. assisted David with the remaing work on the siding, constructing the double doors and installing the trim. Weather was a challenge a couple of days that week.
The building was officially deemed finished by MCPS director Caren Sharp on Saturday April 11, 2009.
The Kiwanis want to thank everyone for their help in getting this project finished.
