I think Haye played a very clever game, against both his opponents and the boxing fans. Muhammed Ali did something similar. Both were great fighters who could talk the talk, project charisma and win the fights that are important.
Ali was way better though. Sadly, if he'd done what Haye did and retired early (after Frazier or maybe Foreman) then he may not be suffering from Parkinsons as he is now. Boxing is a dangerous business.
