Right, 95%. In NY at a press conference, the Beatles were asked if they were millionaires. They all said no. The reporter asked why, they said the queen takes it. Then George added "SHE'S a MILLIONAIRE!" the crowd of reporters laughed. The vid is here somewhere...the first NY visit I think.

It's hard to believe, but true: When George sings, "There's one for you, nineteen for me," he's referring to the actual tax rate for income above a certain level, taxing that income at a rate of 95%. It's what led some British musicians to move out of the country. It's also what he means when he says, "Should 5% appear too small, be thankful I don't take it all."

@Hofnerjoe, you got the real story right. Of all the Beatles I like Paul. He is a great all around artist. Actually the three had the same feeling towards Paul being arrogant. So George first went to John asking for help on the "taxman" but in the end Paul agreed to play the solo. When I first heard it I said to myslef, " what a kick ass solo by George" but I discovered it was Paul. Funny trivia but it also showed their feeling towards each of the members.
