  • Olympic lifters are, in terms of explosive power, the best athletes you can find anywhere. And that "momentum" is actually the explosive power of the hip extensors actually the entire body being imposed on the bar. What you are talking about is not correct. You do not always want to reach fatigue, you have to manage fatigue or you will trash your nervous system. You have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

  • Im not a strength coach, I am a trainer, but I know my shit; the biggest issue across the board whether it be athletes or general pop is flexibility of the posterior chain and to a lesser extent the hip flexors. Without sufficient flexibility in those muscles performance in the weight room and on the field cannot even approach its full potential. I've personally never met someone who couldnt squat that had adequate flexibility.

  • @sjm39 The sooner people get away from this fallacy where Olympic lifting is an automatic correlation between explosive power the better. You can thank the NSCA for that one. I have Division 1 throwers who are some of the NCAA elite that do not clean or snatch they are extremely explosive. They can squat 455 at .90 m/s and jump on a 52 inch box. How is that for explosive power?

  • @sjm39 and throwing a medicine ball. Its a movement that is less taxing to the CNS, especially when you are spending time in practice teaching football skill. I can teach a kid to squat, bench, deadlift and jump, while the "guru" is still standing there with the PVC pipe showing a kid how to clean. In college football you don't have much time. Give them things they can't screw up, which yield results fast, that will have a lasting effect on performance.

  • @Shadowzz4 Are they the best athletes in the world? Or are they just efficient in what they do. There is a difference between an O-Lifter and an overall athlete. Remember, O-Lifting is a tool, not a promise to increased athletic ability. Nothing beats absolute strength when it comes to increases in speed and power. Not to mention, there are very few ways to adapt the snatch, clean, & CJ, so your body stops adapting. Not to mention the force production can still be achieved by jumping....

  • Damn shame at the failure of leadership at Penn State, because the players by in large are high character guys. NCAA/trial, once it all settles, if they bring in a good XOs coach, he will be in a great position (assuming no death penalty, severe scholarships reducts, etc.). Penn State great facilities, talent rich recruiting area, need to bring in someone like Cael Sanderson, look what he's done with wrestling over there. For sake of big ten, and distinguished alumni, i hope they recover.
