A rare Joe Mercer interview in which he talks about his title-winning Manchester City team. From an episode of the series "The Champions" broadcast in 1987.

He speaks about his relationship with Malcolm Allison and gives his opinion of players such as Tony Book, Colin Bell, Tony Coleman, Francis Lee, Mike Summerbee and Neil Young.

  • RIP Joe and Mal!

  • R.I.P. Joe & Big Mal. City Legends Forever. Pikey.

  • Joe Mercer comes across as such a lovely father figure in this interview, and his affection for Big Mal is obvious towards the end of this clip. RIP both!

  • @punditpete So agree with you, the celebrations are a bit ridiculous these days!

  • Great goal and no silly celebrations

  • 0.43 great goal from Bell and a deserved HANDSHAKE ANDPAT ON THE BACK.

No bloody silly dancing round cornerflags and running around with finger to mouth in a shush gesture(what does that mean ?)

  • joe mercer is an absolute legend, i love him he's the greatest man ever to be in football and probably out of football such a gentleman, wish you was still here.

  • how can we have gone from them great times in the 60s/70s winning all most everything

and now 30odd years on from then winning nothing should have been the start of a football club winning everything like liverpool in the 80s/90s
