A 20-year-old western lowland gorilla named Mokolo had to have his heart examined. Watch a team of ultrasound experts assisted by Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's veterinary staff examine this magnificent silverback in their state-of-the-art hospital.
Thanks for your comment. The Zoo's veterinary staff tells us that the gorilla did show a tachycardia (a rapid heart rate) during the procedure. The primary purpose of the examination was to determine the type and extent of his suspected heart disease. He was found to have myocardial fibrosis and is receiving medications to help manage the condition. Please read the recent update on the gorillas' heart health in the Zoo's newsroom.
