I'm cleaning a piston from my Yamaha xs650 and I'm using a great product called Simple Green. Simple Green is an all purpose cleaner/degreaser thats readily available in your local auto or hardware store. I simply let the piston soak for 20min (longer for more carbon buildup) and then scrubbed the (top only) with a scotch bright pad and a nylon brush.
