I think this video is from the Valley Hall of Fame Dinner show. August 10th, 1991. It was produced by the Birkbeck "twins" who were Billiards International at the time. The place was the Williamson Restaurant in Horsham, PA. There was an exhibition by Mike Massey prior to the match. They didn't know if Mosconi was going to be able to compete because he had been severely ill and in the hospital. There is a tape of the whole match available through Accu-Stats. • wheres the rest of it lenny? lol

  • This is all I have, I think you might be able to buy the complete dvd at Accustats, not quite sure bro.

  • I am a pretty good 8 and 9 ball player but don't have much experience with straight pool. I know this is the choice game of many ol' timers but I think it is becoming a lost game. Can anyone tell me what happens if at the end of the game the cue ball or last ball come to rest where the rack should be?? Reply if you know the rule. I am going to try this game now. Enjoyed seeing Mosconi shoot. Read some on him but never saw him in action. Nice.

  • If the object ball is in the rack it gets spotted in the kitchen at the other end of the table on the spot,if the cue ball is in there it is ball in hand in the kitchen behind the line, you have to shoot forward of the line,if a ball is behind the line you cant shoot that ball.

  • @dv713 Willie passed away in 1993 at the age of 80, only a couple years after this was filmed. I met Willie only once, and it was during this early 90s timeframe. He held an exhibition at a shopping mall in South Jersey nearby where he lived. Afterwards he signed autographs for everybody. It was a big thrill for me, I was really getting into billiards at that time. When I came up to have my autograph signed he looked at me and said 'did you bring your money?'...lol.

  • does caras get a shot?

  • I think straight pool could be revived with some rule changes.

I ran several straight pool tournaments and leagues with these changes.

The only changes made were ball in hand on a foul with no extra point taken off the score, just like 8 & 9 ball. This helped speed up play and only one person out of many did not like it, but he complained about everything. Straight pool would have to be made interesting to a TV audience, hence it needs to be speeded up to some degree.

  • I have seen part of this match before. It would be interesting to see the whole thing.

Anybody know how old Willie was at this point. I have heard he was in his 80s and not well physically.

  • @fastlenny69 it's only forbidden to shoot the ball behind the headstring if you get ball in hand after a scratch, but during special racking situations a player is allowed to play any object ball, in this particular case you've mentioned (15th ball behind the headstring, cueball in the rack) the cueball goes to the head spot and a player is allowed to shoot the object ball in the kitchen
