Yes, new r-o-w in the 50s. The 1930s? era US 41 divided 4-lane (aka Skokie Highway) parallels this about 1-5 miles east. Some interesting original engineering features of 41 are being erased over the years but it's still on its old alignment. A nice change of pace vs. 94, there used to be about 10 signals, now a few more. Average speed about 50. And still no tolls.

didnt they widen the lanes all the way to the Wisconsin border??

I also forgot to mention that if you are traveling eastbound and enter at either Business US-20 (State Street) or Interstate 39/Cherry Valley, you can get off at Genoa Road (or I-39/Cherry Valley) and not pay any toll, either.

@mgk920 Actually, you forgot one more place. There is a stretch westbound (and only westbound) on I-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) between US-20 (near Hampshire) and Genoa Road (in Belvidere) where you can get on and off without passing through a tollgate. This section of the road is about 16 miles long. If you decide to go eastbound, there is a toll plaza just east of IL-23, but that's only for eastbound traffic.

@riolindasucks: Trust me, he knows more about freeways than just about anybody in the entire world. He'll even tell you how much traffic uses each freeway (whether it's the U.S., Canada, South Korea, etc.). Basically a human road map.

@aswchris You always seem to comment alot on Freeway videos in the US. Being from the Netherlands, how do you know so much about the US road system, maps, cities, etc? Pretty amazing. BTW, I'd love to see Holland. Some day I'd like to re-trace the steps of Easy Co. 506 PIR like in Band of Brothers from Normandy to Austria.
Is the speed limit on most of the stretch 65?

@cubsrule2040 Yep, some 70 up towards the start though, I believe.

@cubsrule2040 Nothing on the tri-state. It's mostly 65 or 70.
